Composite and Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin custom-made shells placed over the front of your teeth to improve the way they look. This dental technique is especially effective for:

  • covering teeth that have minor imperfections (cracked, chipped, discolored, stained teeth, worn enamel)
  • closing the gaps between front teeth
  • improving misshaped, crooked teeth

Veneers are most commonly made out of composite resin or porcelain, with each kind having their own flaws and advantages.

Composite veneers offer a cosmetic makeover of your smile at a lower cost and more quickly (compare to porcelain veneers). However, they usually need replacement after 3-4 years and are much prone to staining.

Porcelain veneers are more costly and can never be installed in a single appointment with the dentist. The good news is that porcelain is a much stronger material, which results in longer-lasting veneers and, more importantly, due to translucent enamel-like quality it gives your teeth a more natural appearance.

Procedure

During the first visit, a dentist prepares your teeth and takes a mold (impression) for sculpting custom veneers at a dental lab. Once your personal, perfectly-shaped veneers are ready, you pay another visit to have them cemented onto the front part of your teeth. You get a straight and vibrant smile without wearing any braces!
